Iran – As the 20th July deadline looms what remains to secure a nuclear deal?
On 25 May 2014, the European Foundation for Democracy hosted a closed-door briefing to discuss the remaining challenges of securing the Iran nuclear deal as the 20 June deadline rapidly approaches. The expert speakers were Olli Heinonen, former Deputy Director General of the IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency and Senior Fellow at the Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School, as well as Reuel Marc Gerecht, Iran expert at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, FDD, in Washington DC and former Middle East CIA case officer.
Our speakers endeavoured to answer the question of what remains to secure a nuclear deal between the E3/EU+3 and Iran, as the latest round of talks among the parties ends in Vienna. They also discussed the current status of the Iranian nuclear enrichment programme and why the possible military dimension to the Arak nuclear reactor matters so much.
