On 6 June 2012, the European Foundation for Democracy, in co-operation with MEP Franziska Brantner (Greens, Germany) and MEP Ana Gomes (S&D, Portugal), led a panel discussion at the European Parliament on the worsening crisis in Syria. The panel entitled was entitled ‘Syria: The Tipping Point. What now?’.
Following Paris, the UK, Canada, Indonesia and Brussels, the photojournalism exhibition ‘Voices on the Rise: Afghan women making the news’ was on show in Antwerp from 7th to 17th February 2012. The vernissage and exhibition was supported by the European Foundation for Democracy, the Mission of Afghanistan to the EU and the US Mission to the EU and was hosted by Antwerp Central Station.
In 2011, EFD fellows participated in over 75 events throughout Europe.

EFD led a public hearing on criminalising forced marriage in Europe, hosted by MEP Diana Wallis (Alde, UK), Vice President of the European Parliament, and MEP Jean Lambert (Green Party, UK) on 29th June. Two members of the Liberal Muslims Empowerment Network testified before Parliament about the cultural norms that enable forced marriage in some Muslim communities.
